VALEES, along with over 30 local businesses and community organizations, hosted 563 ninth grade students from Earlville, Hinckley-Big Rock, Indian Creek, Leland, Newark, Plano, Sandwich, Serena, Somonauk and Yorkville High Schools during the annual Spark! Career Exploration event located at the Fox Valley Family YMCA (Plano). The event featured multiple organizations from each of the seven College and Career Pathway Endorsement (CCPE) areas in booths with displays, hands-on demonstrations, and industry professionals to answer questions. Career exploration events, where students interact with industry professionals, is an important part of the college and career readiness framework that every high school has adopted to prepare students for their future. Hosting these events in 9th grade allows students to make informed decisions about high school coursework. Businesses and community organizations committing their time and resources to the event included over 80 professionals from the following organizations organized within the CCPE areas. Agriculture Food and Natural Resources: Bright Farms, Facilitating Coordination in Agriculture Education, Illinois Section of the American Water Works Association, Johnson Nursery, Nicor, The Suter Company, Village of Oswego Public Works. Arts and Communications: Edith Farnsworth House, Waubonsee Community College Marketing and Communications. Manufacturing, Engineering, Technology and Trades: IBEW Local 196, Menards Plano Distribution Center, Timken Aurora Bearing, MTH Pumps, GCAMP, Engineering Enterprises, JA Flight Training. To Our Incredible Bus Drivers, On Bus Driver Appreciation Day, we want to take a moment to truly thank you for the care, patience, and dedication you show each and every day. You set the tone for their day with kindness, consistency, and a steady presence that never goes unnoticed. Beyond safely transporting our students, you build relationships, offer encouragement, and create a sense of security that families and schools deeply rely on. Rain, snow, early mornings, and long routes you handle it all with professionalism and heart. Our school community is stronger because of you. Thank you for going the extra mile... literally and figuratively, for our students.
